As of June 1st credit card lawsuits and mortgage foreclosures were once again being allowed to be filed in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties. The Sheriff of each county is back in action. You think the police are at your door at 7:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. and it is really the sheriff to hand you a lawsuit. Is this unnerving? Ablosultely. But all is not lost. The lawsuit papers are the beginning, not the end. Even if you owe the money, great benefit comes to you by defending yourself from creditors.
Do not, under any circumstance, ignore the papers. If you admit defeat and do nothing, you will have a default judgment entered against you; then things can really get bad quickly, as in a sheriff sale scheduled of your home, your bank account frozen and other property siezed for sale by the creditor.
